Case Study:
Scotiabank Custom Leadership Program
Who: Scotiabank, Canada’s largest international bank with over 45,000 employees; a full service financial institution that includes personal banking, commercial banking and investment/wealth management.
Challenge: Strengthen the skills of executives and senior managers in Scotiabank’s Commercial Banking division in developing their people. Organization saw the need to have better relationships and better conversations that would lead to better results.
How: Based on completing an assessment of their needs, Adler custom designed a coaching program for senior Executives, Vice-presidents and Directors using the Positive Change program as the basis. Adler then designed an internal Train the Trainer certification that enabled Scotiabank trainers/facilitators to continue to be able to deliver the program nationally to both current and future leaders in the division.
Results: Scotiabank was the 2004 recipient of the prestigious PRISIM award , which is awarded to organizations who have demonstrated enhanced excellence and business achievement through their commitment to coaching as a leadership strategy that delivers bottom line results. The success of the program spread to other areas of the bank such as Executive Office & Shared Services, and Scotia Intek, Scotia Wealth. The impact continues as the program is now part of Scotiabank’s on-going learning curriculum.
Positive Change program results include:
Increased employee productivity.
Increased employee engagement (e.g. in two years Scotia Leasing’s results moved from 66% to 91% in employee engagement and satisfaction).
Increase in the complexity and importance of the issues being put on the table.
